Rex International Holding Limited has embarked on an exciting new venture by signing a Joint Study Agreement with Helios Aragon, co-founders of a company focused on developing a robust portfolio of natural hydrogen and helium projects globally. This collaboration aims to explore the potential for natural hydrogen in Oman, a region where Rex has established a strong operational presence over the past decade.
Helios Aragon is known for its role as the operator of the Monzon Natural Hydrogen Project in Spain, Europe’s first development of its kind. In addition to its Spanish operations, Helios is also actively exploring opportunities in Poland and the UK, expanding its footprint in the burgeoning natural hydrogen sector.
John d’Abo, Executive Chairman of Rex, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Exploring this new form of energy in a geographical area we know well is an exciting prospect for the Rex Group. This joint study will enable us to assess potential synergies and enhance our contributions towards climate change mitigation.”
Ian Munro, CEO of Helios Aragon, highlighted Oman’s potential as a promising site for natural hydrogen discoveries. He noted, “Oman is increasingly recognised as one of the most prospective countries for the near-term discovery of commercial quantities of natural hydrogen. The region’s geology is optimal for large-scale hydrogen generation, as demonstrated by the numerous surface seeps, some of which contain nearly pure hydrogen.”
Munro further explained that the collaboration will leverage insights gained from European explorations alongside Rex’s local expertise. “Our goal is to thoroughly understand the hydrogen play system in Oman and ultimately produce the cleanest, lowest-cost hydrogen possible,” he said. “This endeavour not only aims to enhance energy security but also supports the transition to a lower-carbon future.”
Through this partnership, Rex and Helios Aragon are poised to make significant strides in the natural hydrogen sector, contributing to both local energy solutions and global climate goals.
